Hello! I'm Nemi Banigo and I am the creator of alt:writer, an AI-powered alt text generator for creating accessible images on social media.

Alt text is short for alternative text, and it is a written description of an image on the web. Alt text is what screen readers read aloud to blind and visually impaired users, and it's also what appears when an image fails to load. Alt text is incredibly important because without it, an image is completely invisible to a significant number of users on the internet.

As a content creator and designer, accessible images are central to how I think about the web. Adding alt text to numerous carousel images can be time-consuming, and I wanted an easier way to do this — so I built alt:writer. This project was also the perfect opportunity to explore a true end-to-end AI workflow: I drafted the PRD and spec in Claude, generated the designs in Figma Make, built in Claude Code, and deployed with Vercel.

I found this project particularly exciting because it sits at the intersection of my passion for product design, and a real practical need in my work as a fashion creator.
